Kim Murphy, age 54, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 25, 2008, the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, from pneumonia, surrounded by his loving family

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and also after 10:00 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church on Monday.

Kim Alan Murphy was born in Fort Dodge, IA, on March 10, 1954, the son of Rodney “Joe” and Betty Lou (Sandbach) Murphy. Kim graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1972. in Mt. Vernon, IA and attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. After college, Kim began his career in materials testing for road paving. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation, and Howard Green Engineering. He moved to Fred Carlson Company in Decorah, IA in 1991. In 2004, he was hired by Koss Construction, Topeka, KS as the Quality Control Manager. Kim was loved by all. Kim inspired all of those around him with his love and sense of humor. Kim loved his wife, Mary, his daughters, their spouses and grandchildren. Saying that Kim enjoyed fishing, golfing and the Green Bay Packers would be an understatement.

Kim’s survivors include his mother, Betty Poula and step father John, Mount Vernon, IA. His loving wife: Mary Murphy, Topeka, KS. His daughters: Brooke and husband Julian Larkin of Murietta, CA; Jaclyn and husband Steven Juve, Prior Lake, MN; Amy and husband Eric Lensing, Decorah, IA; Tara and husband Daniel Stoddard, North Liberty, IA. Grandchildren include Jordan, Briana, Jade, Ethan, Alexa, Ashlyn, Aidan and Kyra. Kim is also survived by his two brothers: Charles “RJ” Murphy, Cedar Rapids, IA and Dennis Murphy, Cedar Rapids, IA. Two sisters: Jody Stewart, Mount Vernon, IA and Cheryl Studt, Mount Vernon, IA, and their families.

Kim was preceded in death by his father, Rodney “Joe” Murphy in 1980.
