Jennifer (Lukes) Murphy, age 31, of Peoria, AZ, formerly of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Hospice of the Valley, Gardiner Home in Phoenix, AZ, due to complications from cystic fibrosis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

The family will greet friends and family after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the church.

In order to honor Jennifer’s wishes of taking care of her daughters’ education, the family prefers that memorials be given in memory of Jennifer, % Jim and Linda Lukes, 802 Clearview Drive, Decorah, IA 52101.

Jennifer Lynn (Lukes) Murphy was born on November 25, 1978, the daughter of James and Linda (Hageman) Lukes in Rochester, MN. Jennifer attended St. Benedict’s Catholic School and graduated from Decorah High School in 1997. She then attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and graduated in 2001, with a Bachelor of Science in Early Education. She married Dan Murphy on December 29, 2001, in Rockford, Illinois and taught school there for a short time. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2002, and Jennifer taught Pre-school Special Education in the Phoenix area, until health complications caused her to quit. In 2009, Jennifer and Dan were blessed with their twin miracle daughters: Madelyn and Gabriella. Jennifer was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and special education teacher who worked passionately to help others in need. Despite her illness, she remained active in her St. Gabriel parish community, enjoyed scrap-booking, and helped manage a growing family pool business.

Jennifer is survived by her loving husband: Dan and their eighteen month-old daughters: Madelyn and Gabriella, as well as her beloved black labs, Sammy and Theresa. She is also survived by her parents: Jim and Linda Lukes, Decorah, IA. Her Maternal grandmother: Gertrude Hageman, Calmar, IA. Father and mother-in-law: Dan and Char Murphy, Rockford, IL. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Julio and Maria Casillas, Eli and Angela Malavolte, Joe and Diana Dawson, and Christopher Murphy. Three nieces: Alyssa, Liliana and Celicia and one nephew: Sammy, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her twin brother: Jonathan James Lukes on March 22, 1997. Her maternal grandfather: Conrad Hageman and her paternal grandparents: Raymond and Christine Lukes.
