Clinton W. Monson, age 95, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a long illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 11, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.
Friends may call from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 10 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.
Clinton Willard Monson was born March 15, 1912 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Esther (Peterson) Monson. He attended Decorah Public Schools.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ean on December 10, 1935 by Rev. Oswald Sandbach at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Decorah. This union was blessed with two children: Marilyn and Meredith.
Clinton worked at the Windle Ford garage as a mechanic. He then started his own mechanic business on West Water Street where he also did chain saw and lawn mower repair. He relocated his business to Center Street continuing his service to the community. In 1952 he built his DX Service Station on Mechanic Street where he continued his service business until he retired in 1997. He worked very hard his whole life and had many long days, but he enjoyed what he did.
Clinton enjoyed attending all of his daughters’ activities over the years both at school and at church. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed woodworking.
He lived at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minnesota for a short period of time and then became a resident of Aase Haugen Home in Decorah on March 6, 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mildred Hinds and Irene Davidson.
Clinton is survived by his wife of more than 72 years, Dorothy of Decorah; two daughters, Marilyn Wolf of New York, New York and Meredith Kay Monson of Flagstaff, Arizona; one granddaughter, Kristi of Flagstaff, Arizona; and by two great-grandchildren.
