M. Kurt Mohlis, age 47, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah of cancer.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, January 18, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah by Rev. Allen Vik with private family inurnment in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. Friday at Fjelstul Funeral Home.
Michael Kurt Mohlis was born July 27, 1960 in Cresco, Iowa, the youngest son of five children of LaVern R. and Dora A. (Fay) Mohlis. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco and confirmed at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagan, MN. Kurt attended schools in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota, graduating from Farmington High School in Farmington, MN with the class of 1978. He then attended Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN, studying drafting and carpentry.
Kurt was united in marriage to Susan Pariseau on September 30, 1983 in Farmington, MN. This union was blessed with two children: Amanda and Zachary, who provided the greatest joys of his life.
He worked as a self employed carpenter and remodeler. Later he worked as a countertop and cabinet maker and installer for NuShapes in Lakeville, MN. Next to his children, Kurt loved the outdoors – hunting and fishing – and he loved to cook and eat what he caught. He was an artist in woodcarving and painting wildlife. He held memberships in Sportsmans Club, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.
In 2003 he sold his home in Farmington and moved to Decorah, IA. He later bought an old house in Cresco which he enjoyed rebuilding inside and out. He also enjoyed making new buddies in his neighborhood to hunt, fish, barbeque and visit with. Kurt had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was the life of family gatherings.
He is survived by his son, Zachary Mohlis of Farmington, MN, a student at U.W. – River Falls in River Falls, WI and his daughter, Amanda Mohlis of Farmington, a student at Argosy University in Eagan, MN; his parents, Vern & Dora Mohlis of Decorah; three sisters: Vicki (Mark) Donhowe of Decorah, Kathy (Steve) Severson of St. Cloud, MN, and Lisa (David) Kittleson of Blue Earth, MN; one brother, Robert (Cathy) Mohlis of Savage, MN; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, and many relatives and friends.
