Anna Mikota, age 91, of Spillville, IA, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA, with Father Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, IA, with a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00. There will also be visitation after 10:00 at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Anna Clara (Svestka) Mikota was born on the family farm North West of Protivin, IA, on July 27, 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Hubka) Svestka. She attended the rural school near her home and Holy Trinity Catholic School in Protivin, IA. On Nov. 28, 1939, Anna was united in marriage to Elmer A. Mikota at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. They farmed east of Protivin on the Mikota family farm in Winneshiek County. Anna enjoyed gardening, picking raspberries, and caraway seed. She was known for making rosettes and noodles for many people. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Wenceslaus Ladies Guild.

Anna is survived by two sons: Larry (Angie) Mikota of Spillville, IA and Gerry (Linda) Mikota of Hackensack, MN. Three grandsons: Mark Mikota, Breezy Point, MN; Ryan (Nicole) Mikota, Maple Grove, MN and Chad Mikota, Hackensack, MN. Two great granddaughters: Elyse and Abbey Mikota.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Anna (Hubka) Svestka; her husband: Elmer Mikota on May 30, 1953; two brothers: Edward (Viola) Svestka and William (Philomena) Svestka, and three sisters: Adella (Alois) Chihak, Nora (Leonard) Kreitzer, and Lillian (Edward) Mikota.
