Sharon Miears, age 64, of Decorah, IA, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. Burial will be in the Locust Cemetery, Locust, IA.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Tuesday morning.

Sharon Faye (Emery) Miears was born on March 9, 1947, the daughter of Roger John and Marlys (Barth) Emery in Decorah, Iowa. Sharon attended rural country schools and was the first class to graduate from the newly built Decorah High School in 1965. After high school, she moved to Oklahoma and then to Texas, where she married her husband: Harold Wilson Miears. After her husband died in 1980, she returned to Decorah in 1987, where she worked at Vi’s Café, the Bakery in Decorah, The VFW and at Burl’s Restaurant. Sharon enjoyed crocheting afghans and pot holders; collecting many ribbons from the Winneshiek County Fair over the years. She also enjoyed her cats, attending parades, the Nordic Fest, taking pictures, and reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books and westerns. Sharon was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Sharon is survived by her son: Roger Miears, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Brenda Eisch, New London, WI. Two grandsons: Timothy Richard “T.J.” and Chris Eisch. One sister: Linda Weber, Edgar, WI. Four brothers: Darrell Emery, Omaha, NE; Ronald (Darlene) Emery, Decorah, IA; Charles (Glenda) Emery, Burr Oak, IA; and Dale Emery, Decorah, IA; along with several nieces and nephews. Two uncles: Arland (Annette) Emery, Decorah, IA, and Jessie (Phyllis) Emery, Mabel, MN. Three aunts: Delores Emery, Burr Oak, IA; Beverly Berg, Davenport, IA; and Nell Ewing, Waterloo, IA.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents: Roger and Marlys Emery. Her husband: Harold Miears in 1980. One sister: Carol Jean Emery in infancy. One brother: Robert Emery in 1963. Her grandparents: James & Alma Barth and John & Vera Emery. One niece in infancy: Allissa Groth.
