Pauline B. Meyers, 95, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress. Graveside services will be at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Mamre Cemetery in Stanton, Iowa by Rev. Eric Kutzli.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, one hour before services, at the church. Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Pauline Blanche Meyers was born April 11, 1914, in Corfu, New York, the daughter of John and Blanche (Young) Meyers. She grew up and graduated from high school in Hartland, New York.

During World War II she worked at Wright’s Defense Plant in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her contribution to the war effort was working on oil pumps for airplane engines. Following the war she worked in the yard goods department of Shillito’s Department Store in Cincinnati until her retirement in 1979. She moved to the Oneota Village in Decorah in February of 2000 to be closer to her family.

She was active in the Methodist Church all her life and received a Special Mission Recognition by the United Methodist Women in 1990. She joined the First United Methodist Church in Decorah in 2000 and was very active in it. She was a member of the Sarah Circle of the U.M.W. and was a regular volunteer at the Thanksgiving and Nordic Fest dinners.

Sewing was her great talent, which she generously shared in many ways. She made beautiful clothes for herself and others, doll clothes for dolls given by the Salvation Army at Christmas to needy children in Cincinnati, quilts, etc. Also, she repaired, crafted, and restored countless items for friends and organizations. She also enjoyed many years of gardening and volunteering at the Salvation Army Thrift store in Cincinnati.

Her parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, along with their spouses: Stuart and Justin Meyers, Janet Nimrod, Carolyn Haug, and Faith Templeton. She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews who held her in special esteem, including Dale and his wife Sunny Nimrod of Decorah.
