Flavia Lechtenberg, age 77, of Festina, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at her home following a long illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, in Festina, Iowa, with Monsignor Cletus Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday and until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Parish Center in Festina, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Parish Center in Festina. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Flavia Eleanor (Boyer) Lechtenberg was born on January 4, 1931, the daughter of Adam and Margaret (Ott) Boyer outside of St. Lucas, Iowa. Flavia grew up around St. Lucas and attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. Flavia married Norbert Lechtenberg on May 6, 1953, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. They lived together on a farm outside of Festina, Iowa, where they worked and raised their eight children and spent time with their grandchildren. Flavia was dear wife, mother, and grandmother who’s greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren, whom she always made time for. She was excellent baker and cook. She loved the outdoors, gardening, taking walks, and she loved her dog, Sadie. Flavia was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa.

Flavia’s survivors include her husband, Norbert Lechtenberg, Fort Atkinson, IA. Three sons: Michael Lechtenberg, Gary Lechtenberg, and Norbert Lechtenberg, Jr., all of Fort Atkinson, IA. Five daughters: Margaret (Arlin) Pahl, Decorah, IA; Patricia (Gene) Frana, Decorah, IA; Barbara (Allan) Shatek, Ft. Atkinson, IA; Jane Lechtenberg, Ft. Atkinson, IA; and Mary (Bryan) Hoyme, Decorah, IA. Fourteen grandchildren: Teressa (Brandon) Kadlec, Travis Frana, Valerie (Russell) Brincks, Sandra (Kyle) Fischer, Sharon Frana, Amy Frana, Amanda (fiancé David Shindelar) Shatek, Joseph Shatek, Luke Shatek, Sterling Shatek, Bryce Hoyme and Madison Hoyme. Also, Stacy (Rob) Engelhardt, Lexie and Marissa Engelhardt, and Brian (Jewell) Pahl and Hannah Pahl. A sister: Arlene Boyer, Dubuque, IA. One brother: Dennis Boyer, St. Lucas, IA. Six sisters-in-law: Evelyn Boyer, Calmar, IA; Connie Woodson, New Hampton, IA; Angela Schilling, Wausau, WI; Marie (Glen) Wilberding, Alta Vista, IA; Lucille Lechtenberg, Decorah, IA; and Gladys Lechtenberg, Dysart, IA. One brother-in-law: Robert (Jovina) Lechtenberg, Lawler, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Flavia was preceded in death by her parents: Adam and Margaret Boyer. Five brothers: Leonard, Raymond, Larry, Andrew and Eugene Boyer. One sister: Sister Margaret Boyer, FSPA. One sister-in-law: Maxine Boyer. Five brothers-in-law: Johnny, Anthony, Lawrence, Alfred and Edwin Lechtenberg.
