O. Glen Larson, age 95 of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Barthell Eastern Star Home following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, by the Rev. Gene Hermeier. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, April 7, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.

Olin Glen Larson was born on May 11, 1910 in Conroy, Iowa County, Iowa. He was the son of Nels and Mary (Olson) Larson. He attended high school in Conroy, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1927. He graduated from Luther College, Decorah, IA in 1935.

On April 30, 1939, Glen married Kathleen Erickson at Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA. To this union 8 children were born: Mary Jane, Glenn, Norma, Karen, Kenneth, Patricia, Arnold and Theresa.

Glen was Agency Manager in Jefferson, Iowa for the Des Moines Register and Tribune prior to entering the Signal Corps as a civilian radar trainee. Before deploying overseas, he received training in Minneapolis, MN, Lexington, KY, Baltimore, MD, and at the University of North Dakota.

Glen was called to Army active duty in early 1944 and served in three campaigns in Europe, the first one being “The Battle of the Bulge.” He received the European Theater Campaign ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.

Upon returning to civilian life, he worked various positions in sales while pursuing his lifelong love of farming. He was instrumental in helping to raise the funds necessary to build the current Aase Haugen Retirement Home on Ohio Street. He later became the Assistant Administrator of the Home and then the Administrator, retiring in 1975.

He was a life long member of the Lutheran church and was active in all phases of the work of the congregations. He served in most all of the Council positions at some time or other over the many years at the various congregations but mostly at First Lutheran, Big Canoe and Hauge Lutheran Churches, all of Decorah. While a student at Luther College he began teaching Sunday school and Bible classes which continued for over 40 years.

He was a past member of the Lions Club and the State Guard (1941 and 42), Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 in Decorah, and Hauge Lutheran Church.

His eight children survive him: Mary Jane (George) McArthur of Lehigh Acres, Fl.; Glenn (Bonnie) Larson of Decorah; Norma (Gary) Hall of Decorah; Karen (Michael) Meyer of Lakeland, Fl.; Kenneth of Decorah; Patricia (Kerry) Dolan of Decorah; Arnold (Holly) of Decorah; and Theresa (Thomas) Anderson of Eldridge, Iowa. Other survivors include 19 Grandchildren,11 Great Grandchildren, his sister Bernice Scarvie of Seattle, WA; sister-in-law Shirley (Jon) Vine of Decorah, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (July 30, 1987), his parents, an infant brother, two brothers-in-law, Stanley Scarvie and Stan Erickson; and daughter-in-law, Carol Larson.
