Langreck, Agnes Elizabeth (Brincks) 1912-2010

Agnes Langreck, age 97, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2010, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Lucas, Iowa.

Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon at the funeral home.

Agnes Elizabeth (Brincks) Langreck was born on August 24, 1912, in Ossian, Iowa, to Bernard and Susan (Weber) Brincks. She attended country school and later the Catholic School in Ossian. Agnes worked at the New Hampton Hospital for several years until her marriage to Edward Langreck on August 28, 1934, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. To this union, four children were born. Ed and Agnes farmed near St. Lucas, until 1978, when they retired and moved to Calmar. Agnes was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed baking bread and cookies, making sequined calendars, doing word searches and playing cards. She treasured all of her family. Agnes was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Rosary Society.

Agnes’ survivors include her daughter: Darlene Elsbernd, Calmar, IA. Two sons: Gerald “Jerry” (Diane) Langreck, Calmar, IA and William “Bill” (Kathy) Langreck, West Union, IA. One daughter-in-law: Joyce Langreck, Decorah, IA. Nineteen grandchildren: Jeannie (Don) Boyer, Don (Trish) Elsbernd, Geri Elsbernd, Terry (Jane) Elsbernd, Joe (Kathy) Elsbernd, Randy (Becky) Elsbernd, Dean (Julie) Elsbernd, Arlyn Elsbernd, Sherri (Jason) Carolan, Kevin (Dawn) Langreck, Kerry (Ann Brown) Langreck, Kraig (Brenda) Langreck, Kelly (Becky) Langreck, Brian (Kelly Cox) Cook, Christine (Chad Bakken) Langreck, James Langreck, Michael (Margaret) Langreck, Daniel Langreck, and Mary Langreck. Thirty-one great grandchildren: Matthew, Joey, Jessica & Christine Boyer, Liz, Eric & Stephanie Elsbernd, David Farley, Amanda & Jeremy Elsbernd, Dylan, Bryce & Colton Elsbernd, Nathan, Britta & Markus Elsbernd, Katelyn, Justin, Ashlyn Elsbernd, Cassidy, Emily, Cody & Andy Carolan, Mitchel & Kaytlan Langreck, Anthony Halverson, Austin & Kamryn Langreck, Jacob Cook, Brady & Mathias Bakken. One great great grandchild: Nickolas Farley. Two brothers: Edwin (Elizabeth) Brincks, New Hampton, IA and Richard (Evelyn) Brincks, Ossian, IA. Two sisters: Edna Huinker, Decorah, IA and Rita (Lavern) Bushman, Ossian, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Alma Gilbert, New Hampton, IA, Irene Brincks, Waucoma, IA and Maxine Brincks, Ossian, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents: Bernard and Susan (Weber) Brincks. Her husband: Edward Langreck on February 16, 1996. Her son: LaVern Langreck on June 29, 1984. Her son-in-law: Paul Elsbernd on March 13, 1997. Her sisters and brothers-in-law: Matilda (Ray) Hackman and Lorraine (Joe) Weiglein. Her brothers and sister-in-law: William (Cecelia) Brincks, Alphonse Brincks, Cletus Brincks and Gregory Brincks as a infant. Her father and mother-in-law: Herman and Rose Langreck. Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Florence (Virgil) Blumele, Julie (Tony) Steinlage, Rose (Joe) Gerleman, Victoria Langreck, Mathias Langreck, LeRoy Gilbert and Charles Huinker.
