Kelly Lang, age 65, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, 1725 Washington Prairie Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Mark Kvale presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday and also after 10:00 a.m., on Saturday morning at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, 1725 Washington Prairie Road. Per family wishes, the casket will be closed.

Kelly Dean Lang was born on January 29, 1947, the son of Forrest and Iva Nell (Ginapp) Lang in Chicago, IL. At the age of fourteen, Kelly started working for his father at Lang’s Dairy. Kelly graduated from Decorah High School in 1965. Kelly was united in marriage to Susan Bakken on April 16, 1966, at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA. He served in the US Navy from June 9, 1966 to May 5, 1968, when he was honorably discharged. Kelly served in the Navy Sea Bees in Vietnam. On March 1, 1976, Kelly bought Lang’s Dairy Equipment, in partnership with Bruce Hanson. Kelly was always proud of his business, where he had a strong work ethic and was conscious of his customers. Kelly’s interests include horses and watching horse races, NASCAR racing, camping with his family and spending time with his friends at “Your Place.” He also enjoyed inventing and tinkering in his shop; always trying to find a way to make things easier. But above all, Kelly loved spending time and being with his grandchildren. Kelly was a member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Helof Holm VFW Chapter #1977.

Kelly is survived by his wife: Susie Lang, Decorah, IA. Three children: Kim (George) Wilson, Hamilton, NJ; Jim (special friend, Julie Madsen) Lang, Decorah, IA; and Dede (J.R.) Hackman, Lawler, IA. Four grandchildren: Dustin Bongiovanni, Dakota Wilson, Blake Hackman and Aleah Hackman. His mother: Iva Nell Lang, Decorah, IA. One brother: Scott Lang, Decorah, IA. One sister: Charlene (Rick) Theis, Chippewa Falls, WI. One aunt: Judy (Terry) Fields, Deerwood, MN. His mother-in-law: Darleen Bakken, Cresco, IA. Four sisters-in-law: Linda Wright, Cresco, IA; Judy (Danny) Biwer, Elma, IA; Rhonda (Bill) Boyle, Elma, IA; and Patty (Daryl) Lindsley, Destin, FL. One brother-in-law: Arnie (Connie) Bakken, Lime Springs, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Kelly was preceded in death by his father: Forrest Lang on Nov. 3, 1986. His father-in-law: Orvin Bakken on Sept. 3, 1991. His grandparents: Eldo & Hazel Lang and Edwin & Agnes Ginapp.
