Kermit Kruger, age 77, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at his home, following sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Zalmona Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Waukon, IA.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning.

Kermit Grant Kruger was born on June 7, 1929, the son of Arthur and Esther (Winkie) Kruger in Waukon, Iowa. Kermit attended school in Waukon. He served in Korea from 1952-53. He was married to Sally Alexander in 1952, in California and they later divorced. From 1954-55, Kermit worked at Earl Sunderman’s Full Service Station in Waukon, Iowa. From 1956-61, Kermit worked at the State of Iowa Maintenance Garage in Waukon. From 1961-85, he drove semi for Frana Beer in Calmar, Iowa. Kermit married Viola Schmidt on December 7, 1966 in New Hampton. Kermit loved horses and animals.

Kermit’s survivors include his wife, Viola Kruger, Calmar, IA. One son: Ron Kruger and friend Betty Steinlage, West Union, IA. and one daughter: Julie Rundle, Rohnert Park, CA. Two grandchildren: Jason Kruger and Shane Rundle. Two sisters: Janice McNitt, Lake Zurich, IL and Ruth Hanson, Waukon, IA. One brother: Merlin (Virginia) Kruger, Harpers Ferry, IA and his former wife, Sally Alexander, Corte Madera, CA.

Kermit was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.
