John G. Kramer, age 83, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Country View Care Center in Waterloo following a lengthy illness.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church (St. Joseph) in Waterloo by Fr. Dennis Coulter, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hazelton, Iowa.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2006 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 400 South Street in Waterloo, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. and a Parish Vigil Service held at 7:00 P.M. Friends may also call an hour prior the services on Saturday at the church.

A memorial fund has been established. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

John George Kramer was born July 22, 1922 near Egan, Moody County, South Dakota, the son of George and Anna (Hemmer) Kramer. He was educated in Moody County Country Schools. Following school, he farmed with his family on their home farm.

He was united in marriage to Mary Rozella Harrington on August 28, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. To this union, five children were born: Timothy, Michael, Mary Ann, Paul and Mark.

John came to Waterloo from South Dakota in the early 1940’s and was employed for a short time with Rath Packing Co. He then began a long career with John Deere, working in the sheet metal maintenance department for 37 years, retiring in October 1983.

John was a long time member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters; 3rd Degree Knight of the Waterloo Council of the Knights of Columbus and he assisted with charitable work with the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Waterloo.

John enjoyed wood working and repairing things for everyone. He loved to work in his garden and also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. John became a resident of Country View Care Center in October 2001.

Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Mary “Rozella” of Waterloo; five children, Timothy (Diane) Kramer of Waterloo, Michael (Becky) Kramer of Waukon, IA, Mary Ann (Bill) Judd of Decorah, IA, Paul Kramer (Robyn Grund) of Savage, MN and Mark Kramer of Farmington, MN; six grandchildren, Adam Kramer of Waterloo, IA, Clay Kramer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Will Kramer of Waukon, IA, Kim and Andrea Kramer of Savage, MN and Jonathan Judd of Decorah, IA; two sisters, Margaret (Harold) Weins of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mary (Virgil) Myers of Sioux Falls, SD; five brothers, Edward (Evelyn) Kramer of Flandreau, SD, Louis (Violet) Kramer of Flandreau, SD, George Kramer of Oronoco, MN, Norbert (Marge) Kramer of Sioux Falls, SD and James Kramer of Chamberlain SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom Kramer, killed in action in World War II on May 4, 1944 and Francis “Sam” Kramer on July 6, 2000; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kramer and Phyllis Kramer.
