Elmer L. Buddenberg

Elmer L. Buddenberg, prominent resident of Castalia, died Monday, January 13, in the hospital at Decorah following an illness of only 10 days. Mr. Buddenberg, who was 68 years old, suffered a stroke on Saturday and his condition gradually worsened until his death.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 16, at 11 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Catholic church at Ossian by the Rt. Rev. Msg. V. J. Peters. Burial was in Bloomfield cemetery at Castalia.

Elmer L. Buddenberg was born May 6, 1900, in Clayton county, a son of the late Henry William and Bertha (Roth) Buddenberg. When he was a youngster he accompanied his parents to the Castalia area where he spent the remainder of his life. He obtained an education by attending the rural schools near his home.

On May 1, 1923, he married Miss Ruth Boyle and to their union was born one son, who survives. He is Rodney Buddenberg of Des Moines. Mr. Buddenberg is also survived by his wife; three grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbur Buddenberg and Melvin Buddenberg of Castalia; and one sister, Mrs. Ruby Reeves of Pomona, California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Buddenberg of Mesa, Arizona and one sister, Mrs. Ed Burt of Clermont.

Mr. Buddenberg worked 35 years for the highway commission, retiring about four years ago.
