Henry W. Buddenberg
Henry W. Buddenberg, who passed away at his home near Castalia on October 8, 1931, at the age of 66 years, was born at Desel, Westpfalia, Germany, June 23, 1865. He left his fatherland when but 17 years of age and found a new home in America. For about 20 years he lived in the vicinity of Postville, moving to Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, in 1903.
February 21, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Roth. This union was blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter -- Harvey, Elmer, Wilbur, Melvin and Ruby, of Castalia -- and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Amelia Burt of Clermont.
Mr. Buddenberg met life with a smile and his reputation was the best possible. He labored for his family and endeavored to make their home pleasant in every respect. Splendor and extravagance were unknown to him; he lived a simple life and his labors were crowned with success. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church and served on the church council for many years, resigning only when ill health compelled him to do so.
Funeral services were held from Zion Lutheran church, Castalia, Monday, Oct. 12th, Rev. G. A. Schmidt officiating. Interment in Pleasant View cemetery.
His four sons officiated as pall bearers.
