Albert Humpal, age 91, of Spillville, IA, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA, with Father Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, IA, with a rosary at 4:00 and scripture service at 7:00.

Albert Charles Humpal, age 91, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Albert was born May 24, 1920 in Winneshiek County, near Spillville, the son of William and Barbara (Triska) Humpal. He attended rural schools and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville. He was united in marriage to Marcella Moudry on June 12, 1944 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville. They farmed near Ridgeway, Iowa until 2006 when they moved to Spillville with their daughter Shirley and her husband, John Francis. They celebrated their 67th Anniversary in June of this year. Albert farmed all of his life. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” by his family, friends and neighbors. He continued going to the farm and working in his shop until his stroke in August of 2010. His greatest enjoyment was working in his shop. He had a three car garage and had one bay filled with all the tools one could have. In his farming days he did custom combining for the neighbors, sold Kussmaul seed corn and raised beef cattle and hogs. He was a great dancer, loved waltzes and taught all his daughters how to dance. He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, the Cubs baseball games and watched Days of Our Lives from the very start.

He is survived by his six children, Helen (Larry) Svoboda of Clear Lake, Iowa, Charles (Patricia) of Ridgeway, Shirley (John) Francis of Spillville, Elaine Michael (John Osland) of Swisher, Iowa, Darlene (Merle) Hageman of Ft. Atkinson and John (Reta) of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving are his grandchildren/step grandchildren: Brian (Lorelei) Svoboda of Windsor, CO, Bradley (Jill) Svoboda of Allen, TX, Deborah Humpal of Des Moines, Jeremy (Kristi) Humpal of Sioux Falls, SD, Dana (Belinda) Francis of Bradenton, FL, Derrick (Leslie) Francis of Mint Hill, NC, Molly Michael (Donny) Burkhardt of Palmetto, FL, Matthew (Becky) Michael of Waunakee, WI, Kristie Hageman (Ryan) Wiltgen of Spillville, Michael (Rachel) Hageman of Manchester, IA, Andrew (Nichole) Hageman of Calmar, Jesse (Sheri) Taylor of Fredericksburg, VA and James Humpal of Waterloo. He has nineteen great grandchildren/step grandchildren: Anika, Alena, Benjamin Svoboda of Windsor, CO, Sydney Svoboda of Allen, TX, Jacob and Kaitlyn Humpal of Sioux Falls, SD, Dalton Francis of Bradenton, FL and Jayden Francis of Mint Hill, NC, Thomas, Kayla and Joshua Burkhardt of Palmetto, FL, Bridget Kowalski, Mason and Gavin Michael of Waunakee, WI, Collin and Ayla Wiltgen of Spillville and Wade and Marissa Sigl of Fredericksburg, VA.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella, parents and one brother, Henry Humpal
