The Decorah Republican, Thursday, November 14, 1901
Ole Halvorson Valle died at his home in Pleasant township, Oct. 24, 1901. He had been afflicted with heart disease for two years, and at the time his sufferings were very great. Deceased was born Nov. 21st 1821, at Nummedahl, Norway, and came to his country in 1840, becoming one of the first Norwegians settlers here. In 1844 he was employed by the government to plow for the Indians, and some of that plowing was done over by Trout Run, on what is now known as the Peter Roney farm. He was a visitor at Decorah when there was but one house, which must have been the Day family log cabin. There were eleven children born to him and his wife, nine of whom, with the mother survive him. Four children live in Dakota, viz: H.O.and Ole O., and two daughters, Mrs. P.C. Peterson and Mrs. C.J.Peterson. One daughter, Sarah, lives with her mother on the old homestead: Mrs. Hans Erickson and Mrs. T. Iverson, both live in Pleasant township; Mrs. L Thorsen, at St. Olaf, and Mrs. C.P. Barker, Decorah.
Deceased was an earnest republican and deeply interested in public affairs as long as he was able to take part in them. He had suffered so long that he was glad when his Savior called him home. Funeral services were conducted at the Springwater church, by Rev. A. Jacobsen, Saturday, Oct. 27, and interment was made at the church cemetery, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.
