Mrs.Sarah Sande Dies at age 95; Rites Are Today

Mrs. Sarah Sande of Decorah died March 11 at the Decorah Retirement Center at the age of 95.

Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday, March 14) at 2 p.m. at Steine Funeral Home with Pastor Allen E. Nelson officiating. A long-time resident of the Springwater area, Mrs. Sande will be buried in the Springwater Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Omar Forde, Bernell Dehning, Ronald Borsheim, Steve Sande, Eugene Sande and Howard Sande. Mrs. Ransome Bolson will play the organ and Mrs. W.D. Willer will sing. Arrangements are being made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sande is survived by four sons, Marvin Sande, Decorah, Elder Sande, Leroy, Minn., Ben Sande and Selmer Sande, Decorah; a daugher, Mrs. Theodore (Amanda) Berg; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a brother, Ben Thompson who resides at the Aase Haugen Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Matt and Lisa Thompson, her husband, Engebret Sande; two sons, Levi Sande and Harris Sande; two sisters and eight brothers.

Mrs. Sande, the former Sarah M. Thompson, was born March 24, 1876 in Norway where she attended school. She came to the United States at the age of 9 settling in the Springwater area. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
