Irene Richards, 76 of Decorah, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Room, with the Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen officiating. The Rev. Marion Miller was the pianist, Soloist Shirley Gangstad sang "Hymn of Promise". The congregation sang "Precious Lord, Take my Hand" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus."
Casket bearers were Brian Cutsforth, Jim Cutsforth, Patrick Cutsforth, Sean Cutsforth, John Sharp and Merlin Sharp. Burial was at the Springwater Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Irene (Quandahl) Richards was born May 24, 1920, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the daughter of John Severin and Sarah (Nesheim) Quandahl. She attended rural schools and Decorah High School. On Nov. 3, 1941, she was married to Albert F. Richards in Bethany, Mo.
Irene did housework and babysitting for a number of years. She ahd been a resident of Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn. since Feb. 13, 1990. She went into the nursing home because of complications from multiple sclerosis. She was very involved in the activities and life of Green Lea Manor.
Irene was a member of First Lutheran Church. She liked to do needlework and crochet. She enjoyed music.
Survivors include a sister, Hazel and Lloyd Sharp of Decorah; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Quandahl of Decorah; and mumerous nieces and nephews.
Irene Richards was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert, who died June 18, 1976; and two brothers, Raymond and Walter Quandahl.
