Rachel Odson, 85, Dies in Decorah

Funeral services were to be held this afternoon, Thursday, at Decorah Lutheran church for Rachel Odson, 85, who died January 13 in Decorah.

Rachel Odson was the last member of a family of three girls and five boys.

She was born on a farm in Springwater, near Decorah, February 1, 1862. She attended school at Springwater, later entering school in Decorah.

She taught school in the rural districts for a number of years. She and her mother moved to Decorah October 4, 1904, where she has lived since. Rachel Odson's mother died September 29, 1912, at the age of 90 years.

Miss Odson was active in church affairs and an honorary member of the Laidies Aid at Decorah Lutheran church. She never married.

The following brothers and sisters preceded her in death; Anna Odson, Julia Odson Holkesvik, Edgar, John, Samuel, Joseph and William Odson.

She is survived by the following nieces and nephews; Gyda (Mrs. ? C. Smith) Decorah; Eugene Holkesvik, Decorah; Glayds (Mrs. A.P. Anderson) Great Falls, Montana; Anita (Mrs. J.S. Lee) Kennewick, Washington; Genevieve (Mrs. Boothe) Spokane, Washington; Scholig Odson, Anoka, Minnesota; Ray Holkesvick, Bismark, North Dakota.
