Decorah Public Opinion, November 11, 1903

John Odson, born Feb. 18, 1816, in Hardanger, Norway, was married to Miss Martha Jaastad in 1845, and in 1857 came to America and direct to Decorah. Soon afterward he purchased the Springwater farm, where he lived until he died. He leaves to mourn his loss, beside a large acquaintance of friends and neighbors, the wife and seven children, Ed, at home; John, Spokane, Wash.; Sampson, Seattle, Wash.; Joseph, Lewiston, Idaho; Mrs. N.A. Olson, Locust; Rachael and William, at home. The funeral services were held from his home and church Sunday, Nov. 1st, with interment in Springwater cemetery. Mr. Odson was an industrious, unassuming man, conscientious and honest, a great reader, and a splendid citizen. He will be greatly missed from the community.

JOHN ODSON.
John Odson was born In Hardanger, Norway, Feb. 18, 1816. He was married to Martha Joustad of the same place in 1845, and came to America in 1857, arriving in Decorah July 1st of that year. Within the month he purchased and moved on the farm at Springwater where he lived continuously to the time of his death. A widow and seven children survive him. Of these the eldest, Edgar Odson, is temporarily staying at the old homestead; John is located at Spokane, Wash.; Samson at Seattle, of the same state, and Joseph at Lewiston, Idaho. Mrs. N. A. Olson, a married daughter, lives near Locust, and Rachel and William live at home.
Mr. Odson was always an unwavering republican; a member of the United Lutheran church. He led a rather quiet and retired live but read much and was well informed. He had an unusually clear intellect and saw clearly the things that lay within his mental horizon. He was industrious, upright, and conscientious in all his dealings.
He was buried in the Springwater cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 1, services being hold at his late home and in the church.
