Beloved Mother Passed Away Here Wednesday

Mrs. Guri Ness Erickson, an esteemed resident of the third ward, passed away at the family residence 307 Mill street Wednesday, Nov. 23. She had been in failing health for the past year and for two weeks previous to her death had been confined to her bed.

Guri Valle was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole H Valle and was born in Clayton county, Iowa, March 2, 1856. When she was about 12 years of age she moved with her parents to this county near the Minnesota state line.

In the year 1887 she was united in marriage to Hans Erickson who preceded her in death about 13 years ago. They made their home in Winneshiek county after their marriage, having lived on a farm in Pleasant township before moving to Decorah about 16 years ago.

Thirteen children were born to the union, four of whom passed in infancy and three others died in later years. They were Clara (Mrs. Olias Nesheim), William and Lillie (Mrs. Glen Pierce).

The surviving children are Mary (Mrs. Narve Narveson), Pleasant township; Oscar, Ellen (Mrs. Theo. Narveson), Canoe township; Harry and Stanton of Pleasant township, Norman at home. One brother, Halvor O. Valle of Brandt, S.D. survives, also 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, Florence Nesheim, had made her home with her grandmother for over 20 years.

Mrs. Erickson was a woman respected and esteemed by a legion of friends. She was a good wife, mother, neighbor and friend. Her friendships were numbered by her acquaintances. Her passing brings much sorrow and the sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved children in their loss.

The funeral services were held on Sunday from the Lutheran church in Decorah, Rev. O. Glesne and Rev. Carl Losen officiating. Interment was in the Springwater cemetery.
