Ellen Narveson dies December 17 at age of 93

A pioneer Winneshiek County woman, Mrs. Ellen O. Narveson, died December 17 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 93. She was born in Winneshiek County and except for six years in North Dakota had lived all her life here.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Alden H. Hovda Monday, Dec. 19 at the Decorah Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Burial was in Springwater Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Gwyneth Aarhus, DuWayne Aarhus, Collin Aarhus, Darrel Wicks, Loren Wicks and Craig Thompson. Mrs. Otto Ruen was organist, and Mrs. Narveson's granddaughter, Lori Barron sang. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mrs. Narveson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marion (Glorianne) Wicks of Decorah, Mrs. Truman (Eunice) Kirkeby of Decorah and Mrs. Gladys Aarhus, Cedar Rapids; 10 grand children; 19 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Selmer Larson of Decorah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Theodore Narveson, a son, Harold; a daughter, Joyce and 12 brothers and sisters.

As Ellen O. Erickson, Mrs. Narveson was born July 27, 1884 in Pleasant Township, the daughter of Hans and Julia Erickson. She attended rural schools and was married March 20, 1907 in the family home. Her husband died in 1973.

Mrs. Narveson was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
