Funeral services for Virgie Brandt were held Friday, January 22, 1999, at 10 a.m. in Schwarts Funeral Home at Parkersburg, Iowa. The Rev. Dr. H. Palm, Pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, Iowa officiated. Schwartz Funeral Service of Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements.

Virgie Marguerite (Olson) Brandt, the daughter of Edwin and Emma (Knudtson) Olson, was born February 24, 1912 in Clermont, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa.

She received her education and graduated from the Clermont High School in 1929. On November 27, 1935, Virgie Olson was united in marriage with Oran Brandt in Leon, Iowa. After marriage they lived in Castalia, 2 years in Yuma, Arizona, then back to Castalia. After leaving Castalia, the Brandts lived in Delhi for 5 years before moving to Maquoketa in 1955. Virgie was a bookkeeper for Meinerz Creamy and a cheese make in Maquoketa. She retired at the age of 79 years. In 1991, she moved near her daughter, Jean at Parkersburg, Iowa.

Virgie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and reading. She reached the age of 86 years, 10 months and 26 days. Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Brandt, January 15, 1975 and her 3 sisters, Magdalen Rolfs, Eva Olson and LaVerle Olson (Elmer).

Virgie is survived by her son, John (Mary) Brandt of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter Jean (Bob) Haylock of Parkersburg, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and one sister, Dottie Poleet of Oostburg, WI.

A Committal Service was held Saturday, April 17, 1999 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia. The Rev. Robert Hupp of Postville Lutheran Church conducted the graveside service.
