Ted Hageman, age 78, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, and also after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 followed by a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday a the funeral home.

Theodore “Ted” Joseph Hageman was born on July 5, 1931, the oldest son of John and Elizabeth (Jacobs) Hageman on the family farm near St. Lucas, Iowa. Ted attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas and helped area farmers on their farms. Ted bought the home farm and farmed, along with helping other farmers. He farmed until the late 1980’s and then rented out his land. Ted enjoyed watching ballgames and going to Steam Engine Days. Ted was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree member.

Ted is survived by his one brother: Roman (Sharon) Hageman, Postville, IA. One sister: Rita (Joe) Menne, Viroqua, WI. One sister-in-law: Diane Hageman, Fort Atkinson, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents: John and Elizabeth Hageman. Two sisters: Ida Hageman in infancy and Agnes (Rinhard) Bottema. One brother: Leo Hageman in 1983.
