Curt Gremm, age 81, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah after a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Carol Kress officiating. Burial will be in the Canoe Methodist Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and also after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Friday morning.

Curtis LeRoy Gremm was born on May 16, 1927, the son of Roy and Ruby (Brouillet) Gremm, in Canoe Township, rural Decorah, Iowa. As a child, Curt moved with his family near Frankville, IA. Curt was confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Frankville, Iowa on March 29, 1945. Curt married Leona Kimpston on June 19, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa. Together they farmed near Frankville. Curt worked at Decorah Implement as a mechanic for many years. In later years, he delivered parts. Curt also worked for the Freeport Water District, retiring in August of 2008. Curt enjoyed fishing, golfing, and rebuilding lawnmowers, along with having coffee and breakfast at the Family Table Restaurant. He liked to collect miscellaneous things as well as John Deere Toys. Curt was a fifty-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah.

Curt’s survivors include his son: Gary (Marie) Gremm, Waukon, IA. Three daughters: Barbara (Edward) Szabo, Decorah, IA; Debra (Gary) Tekippe, Decorah, IA and Cynthia (Randy) Plaht, Postville, IA. Special friend: Ethel Brandt, Decorah, IA. Seven grandchildren: Eddie Szabo, Christopher (Amanda) Spilde, Joshua Spilde, Alex Spilde, Lacie (Shawn) Driscol, Katelyn Plaht and Lawrence Olson. Four great grandchildren: Noah Spilde, Rachel Spilde, Ethan Driscol and Logan Driscol. One sister: Marilyn Ward, Burr Oak, IA.

Curt was preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Ruby (Brouillet) Gremm. His wife: Leona on October 5, 1988. One brother-in-law: Johnny Ward on Nov. 5, 1996.
