Irene H. Falck, age 60, of Decorah, IA, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Rev. Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will be in Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 8 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Wednesday one hour before the service at the church.
Irene Harriet (Haugen) Falck was born on February 23, 1951 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Elsie (Halverson) Haugen. She was baptized on March 18, 1951 and later confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. She attended Decorah Schools and graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1969. She then started working at Decorah State Bank.
Irene was united in marriage to Harold A. Falck on September 5, 1970 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. This union was blessed with two children: Brenda and Randy.
She continued to work at the bank until the birth of their daughter Brenda. Irene and Harold farmed for many years, first north of town and then south of town. She then started working at the bakery in 1990 and worked there until the fall of 2006. Later that winter she began working at Happy Joe’s and worked there through the present time.
Irene was a lifelong member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, she served as a deacon of the church and was also chair of the circles for several years. She and Harold liked to play cards in the past and she also enjoyed going on the bank’s bus trips. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and she especially loved her grandchildren, playing with them and taking care of them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on July 14, 2006; her father Ivan on December 4, 1997; her brother James Haugen on October 20, 1982; and her father- and mother-in-law, Harry and Nellie Falck.
Irene is survived by her two children and three grandchildren: Brenda Falck and her daughter Shawnee of Decorah and Randy (Janet) Falck and their sons Cody and Ethan of Decorah; her mother, Elsie Haugen of Decorah; her sister, Pearl (Roger) Hamilton of Decorah; three brothers-in-law: Phillip Falck of McDonald, PA, Willie (Holly) Falck of Decorah, and Steve (Terry) Falck of Decorah; four sisters-in-law: Marie Headington of Decorah, Suzanne (Brett) Willey of Castalia, IA, Rebecca (Phil) Heying of Decorah, and Inga (Jody) Martin of Prairie du Chien, WI; and by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
