Delores Emery, age 78, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church with Rev. Matt Larson presiding. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
There will be visitation after 12:00 at the church on Monday. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.
Delores Joann Lovlien Emery was born on June 9, 1933, the daughter of Harold and Audrey (Cassel) Lovlien in Burr Oak Township. Delores attended country school and Canton High School and married Howard Quandahl, in 1950 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born: Kathy and Dennis. They later divorced, and she married Merlin Emery on Dec. 21, 1963 in Preston, Minnesota and they were the parents of Merlin (Rusty) and Rodney. Delores enjoyed reading, doing crafts, sewing and especially spending time with her family.
Delores is survived by her children: Kathy (Rick) Ellingson, Decorah, IA; Dennis Quandahl, Waterloo, IA; Merlin (Rusty) Emery, Waukon, IA; and Rodney (Melissa) Emery, Chandler, AZ. Four grandchildren: Rodney (fiancé, Kimbley Rogers) Ellingson, Gabrielle, Cole and Cooper Emery. Two brothers-in-law: Arland (Annette) Emery, Decorah, IA, and Jesse (Phyllis) Emery, Mabel, MN. Two sisters-in-law: Beverly Berg, Davenport, IA., and Nell Ewing, Waterloo, IA.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Audrey Lovlien. Her husband: Merlin Emery in 2005. Two brothers-in-law: Roger (Marlys) Emery, Decorah, IA. and Thomas Emery, Mabel, MN. Three sisters-in-law: Betty Guhl, Jacksonville, FL., Lenora Seliger, Waterloo, IA. and Joann Emery, Decorah, IA.
