Mark Stanley Numedahl was born in Calmar, Iowa, to William and Violet (Bergan) Numedahl on June 2nd, 1945. He was baptized at home on August 7th, 1945 and confirmed at Calmar Lutheran Church on May 10, 1959. He graduated from South Winneshiek High School with the class of 1963. On September 23rd, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janice Headington at Burr Oak Lutheran Church. To this union, three sons were born: Scott, Steven, and Andrew.

Mark began his construction career with Berge Construction (later Brown Builders, Inc.) in 1973. In April of 1993 he founded Mark Numedahl Construction where he, along with the help of an outstanding crew, established himself as one of the premier contractors in Decorah.

Mark was a long time member of Decorah Lutheran Church, and served on the church council. He was also a member of the Elk’s Club, and Silvercrest and Oneota Country Clubs, where he served as a Board Member on both. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing…and was forever proud of the fact that there is now one less 6x6 bull elk in Colorado. Mark loved living, and cherished precious moments with family and friends. He expressed the importance of living each day to the fullest, and touched many lives with this belief.

Mark passed away on Sunday, November 6th, 2005 at home after a courageous battle with colon cancer. After being diagnosed on January 7th of 2001, he was given six months to live. However, in what was symbolic of his character, he was able to fight on for four heroic years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lyle Numedahl; one sister-in-law, Kay Numedahl; his father-in-law, Guy Headington; two brothers-in-law, Wayne and Lyle Headington; one nephew, Blaine Numedahl; and one niece, Diana Headington.
