Luverne was born November 22, 1916 in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Philip and Clara (Barth) Young. She attended the Kenyon Country School and then graduated from the Decorah High School. Luverne was confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust, Iowa.

On March 17,1937 she was united in marriage to Cyrus I. Nordsving in Lime Springs, Iowa.

They farmed in the Lime Springs, Mabel, and Henrytown areas until retiring and moving to Lenora in rural Canton. Cyrus passed away October 19, 1984.

She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church, WELCA, and Lydia Circle. Luverne enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, cooking, and fishing.

Luverne passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 90.

Luverne is survived by two sons Manferd of Harmony, Minnesota and Norman (Hildred) of Canton; a daughter Sharon Nordsving of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren Jon Nordsving, Kristi Sivesind, Tony Grubb, Todd Grubb, Melissa McLan, Lisa Scheevel, Kelly Hanson, and Chuck Nordsving; eighteen great grandchildren; and three sisters Leilah Matter, Edna Gjere, and Iona Price all of Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyrus; a son Garry; a grandson Jason; and a brother Lester.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Monday at the Mengis Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
