Gladys was born January 10, 1931 in Ray, North Dakota to Oscar and Bergit (Bjerntsen) Landsom. The family moved to Riceford, Minnesota where she attended school and was confirmed. They later moved to rural Spring Grove where Gladys graduated from the Spring Grove High School in 1949. On December 17, 1949 she married Leslie Wennes. Gladys played a very active part as they farmed the Wennes family farm in northern Winneshiek County, Iowa. After 50 years of marriage, Leslie died on March 19, 2000. On October 18, 2003 she married Harold (Smokie) Jammes at the Highland Lutheran Church.

Gladys was an active member of Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove teaching Sunday School, a member of the Ladies Aid and Pricilla Circle and church counsel. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, playing cards, working on her lawn and flower beds, dancing, cooking and working on the farm (including custom plowing with her beloved Massey Ferguson 1100). She also enjoyed rosemaling items for the house, church, family and community. She was the head hen of the hens n chicks association.

Gladys passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Barthell Order of the Eastern Star Home in Decorah at the age of 79.

Gladys is survived by her husband Harold of rural Decorah, Iowa; three children Greg (Jacque) of Spring Grove, Brenda Gullickson of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Patty (Karl “Koony”) Kobriger of Decorah; two step children Susan Jammes of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Harold “Butch” Jammes of Richmond, Minnesota; seven grandchildren three step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; a brother Milford (Emma) Landsom of Spring Grove; a sister Genevieve Holty of Spring Grove; sister-in-law Ione Wennes Hagen of Buffalo, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Leslie; three sisters Lillian Ingvalson, Josie Rauk, and an infant sister; and a niece Barb DeWall.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove with the Reverend David Andreae officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Friday, June 11 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
