Edith Benita Paulson, Harpers Ferry, formerly of Clermont, Iowa, February 18, 2012
Edith Benita Paulson, 92, of Harpers Ferry, formerly of Clermont, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Edith was born March 12, 1919 in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Clark G. and Betsy (Ottney) Tillinghast. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Edith was united in marriage with Truman Arthur Paulson on April 29, 1943 at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Edith was an accomplished piano player. Prior to her marriage, she played piano in an orchestra led by Ray Halverson. After her marriage she played for the Sunday School at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah and for the Harpers Ferry Church. Edith was a person of strong faith. Edie enjoyed playing piano at several honky tonks along the Mississippi River. She also enjoyed reading and fishing.
Edith is survived by her five children, Marilyn Ann Paulson of Cedar Rapids; Richard (Peggy) Paulson of Stewartville, MN; George (Candy) Paulson of Springville; Roberta (Mark)Galchutt of Clemmons, NC; and Sonja (Rev. David) Johnson of Arcadia, WI; six grandchildren, Paula (Kirk) Twelmeyer of Des Moines; Kjersti Paulson of Eden Prairie, MN; Lance (Shellie) Kamaus of Lisbon; Dane Paulson of Minnetonka, MN; Andrew Galchutt of Clemmons, NC; and Betsy Galchutt of Raleigh, NC; and five great grandchildren, Brett and Kyle Twelmeyer; and Cohen, Carew, and Kinsley Jo Kamaus.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Truman on February 28, 1998; her parents; three brothers, Ray, Syrille, and George Tillinghast; and two sisters, Maybelle Derhammer and Jennie Raftshol.
Celebration of Life Services: Will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Interment will be in God’s Acres Cemetery, Clermont.
Visitation: Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont.
