Katherine Running Figler, age 96, of Decorah, Iowa died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a brief illness.

Private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in Sarasota Memorial Park Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of the arrangements.

Katherine Running Figler was born June 24, 1908 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Clara (Lynne) Running. She was baptized on July 26, 1908 and later confirmed on May 27, 1923 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Katherine graduated from Decorah High School.

She was united in marriage with Frank Fleming and he preceded her in death. She then married Ed Figler on April 12, 1980 in Big Pine Key, Florida. He preceded her in death.

Following her graduation from High School, Katherine worked for a local dentist for a time. She then relocated to New York City where she designed clothing and later worked as a design draftswoman. She was very artistic and creative. Katherine also assisted in the manufacture of window mannequins that were used in department store windows in New York. She returned to Decorah in 1997.

Katherine died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah at the age of 96 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, John and Carl “Lynne” Running.

Survivors include a step son, Al Figler of Woodinville, WA.; two sisters-in-law, Zola Running and Loretta Running, both of Decorah, IA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
