Donald was born September 2, 1931 in Decorah, Iowa to Charles and Florence (Harvey) Baker. He graduated from the Harmony High School in 1949. He started farming with his father until 1952 when he married Joyce Breitsprecher in Burr Oak, Iowa. They lived in Hesper, Iowa where he started his career in carpentry. In 1965 they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he continued his carpentry career until retiring in 1996 and moving to Mabel, Minnesota where they have resided since. Don loved playing cards, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Don passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa at the age of 77.
Don is survived by his wife Joyce of Mabel; three daughters Sandy (David) Ott of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Debbie (Dean) Archer of Swisher, Iowa, and Tammy (Bryan) Willcoxson of Onalaska, Wisconsin; a son Todd (Angie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and three brother-in-laws Bob (Eileen) Breitsprecher, Jerry Breitsprecher, and Miles Breitsprecher. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Joyce Ringoen and Charlene Baker.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Sunday, February 22 at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church.
