Mayme Vopava age 103, of Spillville, IA, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Spillville, IA. Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Protivin, IA.
Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. At the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, IA. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. There will also be visitation after 9:30 at the church on Saturday.
Mayme Rose Vopava, was born on Nov. 15, 1907, the daughter of Frank J. and Mary Ann (Klima) Dvorak in Spillville, Iowa. Mayme attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville. She met Edwin Vopava at a dance at the Inwood Ballroom and together they were married in a double wedding ceremony with her older sister, Mable and Glen Hovden on November 13, 1929. Mayme farmed with her husband until he passed away on July 21, 1955, from a heart attack. After that, Mayme sold the farm and moved into Spillville and lived with her mother. She then worked at the Spillville Post Office from 1956-1973. Mayme enjoyed doing crafts, fishing and dancing. Mayme entered the Ossian Senior Hospice in August 2004. Mayme was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Mayme is survived by her sister: Lorraine Busta, Protivin, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mayme was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mary Ann Dvorak. Her husband: Edwin Vopava in 1955. Her sister: Mabel (Glen) Hovden. Three brothers: Leonard (Genevieve) Dvorak; Clarence (Irene) Dvorak; and Julius (Jane) Dvorak. One brother-in-law: Ben Busta.
