Lester Torresdal, age 77, of Decorah, Iowa died on April 28, 2005 at home in Decorah, Iowa following a short illness.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Allen Vik officiating. There will be a time to greet the family one hour before services at the church. Because of his concern for others, Lester donated his body to science at the Mayo Foundation at Rochester MN.

Lester Theodore Torresdal was born on August 24, 1927 on the family farm in Springfield Township to Osmund and Alma (Bolson) Torresdal. Lester was baptized at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Ossian Lutheran Church. Lester graduated from Ossian High School and received his BA degree from Luther College in 1950. Lester married Grace E. Ohnstad on December 15, 1950 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Lester farmed the family farm near Ossian from 1952 to 1988, then worked at his son’s business, R.L. Torresdal Company, as a machinist for 18 years. Lester and Grace moved to Decorah in 1988, where he was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and Choir, and the Luren Singers. He was also a previous member of Ossian Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He was a previous board member of the Lutheran Credit Union and Ace Telephone Company. He was a member of the Brown Swiss Association, and the Decorah Flying Club. Lester loved to travel and enjoyed three trips to Norway with the Luren Singers. He loved music and the opportunities it provided. Lester was proud of his children and grandchildren.

Lester’s survivors include his wife, Grace Torresdal, Decorah, IA. One son, Raymond Torresdal & wife Pam, Decorah, IA and one daughter: Greta Ege & husband Lee of Ramsey MN. Three grandchildren: Samuel Ege and Carmen Ege, Ramsey, MN and Kristin Torresdal, Calmar, IA. Two sisters: Alice Broderick, Decorah, IA and Irene Jewell, Orinda, CA.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents: Osmund and Alma Torresdal; his infant daughter: Carmen Grace Torresdal and his brother: Raymond Donald Torresdal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bremwood Lutheran Children’s Home, Box 848, Waverly, IA 50677 or to the charity of choice.
