Marcella Sutton, age 79, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Monsignor Edward Lechtenberg presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday and until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA.

Memorials may be given in memory of Marcie to the Marcella Sutton Memorial Fund, 2827 Bluffton Rd. Decorah, IA 52101

Marcella Rose (Schupanitz) Sutton was born on February 1, 1931, the daughter of Hugo and Catherine (Etteldorf) Schupanitz in Festina, IA. Marcie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina and graduated from Calmar High School, as Valedictorian in 1949. While in high school, she was the homecoming queen. Marcie worked at the Iowa State Bank in Calmar from 1949-53. On July 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Mark Sutton at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, IA. Together they raised their family on a farm on the Bluffton Road, near Decorah. After her children were in school, Marcie worked for Montgomery Wards, Sears and at the Bargain Outlet, retiring in 2003. Marcie enjoyed traveling, baking & cooking, sewing, and tending to her garden and flowers. Marcie loved spending time visiting with her friends, playing cards and drinking coffee. Above everything, Marcie loved her family and especially her grandchildren. Marcie was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and St. Lawrence Circle.

Marcella’s survivors include her husband: Mark Sutton, Decorah, IA. Two daughters: Colleen (Bob) Kacher, Clive, IA and Lou Ann (Greg) Eaton, Apple Valley, MN. Three sons: Jim Sutton, Decorah, IA; John (Gerri) Sutton, Cottage Grove, MN; Bob (Brenda) Sutton, Decorah, IA. Nine grandchildren: Kiley Kacher, Brandon Kacher, Kelsey Eaton, Katie Eaton, Josh Sutton, Ashley Sutton, Stephanie Sutton, Jenna Sutton and Austin Sutton. One brother: John Schupanitz, Cedar Rapids, IA. One sister: Margaret Carolan, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Vincent (Barbara) Sutton, Decorah, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Mary Schupanitz, New Hope, MN and Imelda (Emmett) Nesteby, Lansing, IA, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents: Hugo and Catherine (Etteldorf) Schupanitz. One brother: Carl Schupanitz. Two brothers-in-law: James Alberts and Eugene Carolan. Her father and mother-in-law: Lawrence and Grace (Malanaphy) Sutton.
