Myra L. Snyder, age 93, of Decorah, Iowa died on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah, Iowa following a long illness.
No services will be held, memorials can be sent in Myra's name to the Southern Poverty Law Center. SPLC, 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL, 36104.
Arrangements are being handled by the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa.
Myra Wright Snyder was born on July 22, 1912 in Kenmare, N.D. the daughter of Charles H. and Juliet (MacMurry) Wright. The family moved to Illinois in 1925. Myra attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan College in Bloomington in 1936 with a B.A. in Biology. In 1939, she married Arnold L. Snyder in Burlington, Iowa where she lived until 1988. Myra worked for many years, as a secretary, at the Burlington Basket Factory. In 1988, Myra moved to Decorah to be near her family. Myra was a member of the Unitarian Church. She was a serious reader and held strong political views. She enjoyed watching birds and the Midwestern countryside.
Myra is survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Ellen and Weldon Bell, Ridgeway, IA and Jean and Tom Murray, Decorah, IA; Four grandchildren and one sister: Frances Cullom, Ashland, OR
Myra was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arnold in 1978.
