Rites Held For Ward Bachelder

Ward Bachelder, son of William and Myra (Smith) Bachelder, was born December 22, 1885 at Castalia and passed away October 16, at his home in Castalia after several years of failing health.

Mr. Bachelder grew to manhood on the old homestead near Castalia. He was a lifelong resident of this community, having acquired his education in the local schools and beginning his lifelong work as a farmer.

On April 9, 1912, he was unted in marriage to Mame Hunter. To this union were born two children, Harry and Genevieve (Mrs. Roy Schultz), both of Castalia. Mr. and Mrs. Bachelder started farming and continued at this occupation until they retired about 8 years ago.

He was preced in death by 2 brothers, Glen and Russel, and one sister, Wilma. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Mame Bachelder; one daugther, Genevieve (Roy) Schultz; Harry Bachelder; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Roy of Rock Mountain, Alberta Canada, Valder of White Bear, Saskatchewan, and Clarence of Vancouver, Canada; 3 sisters: Floy, Mrs. Greene and Gladys, Mrs. Bob Tomlinson, both of Vancouver, and Mrs. Mabel Birdsell of Waukon.

Services were from the Castalia E. U. B. Church Monday, October 19, at 1:30, with Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiating; burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.

Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1964, from Dorothy Schave's obituary collection.
