Rites Were Held For Mrs. Bachelder
Hattie Bachelder, daughter of John and Emma Brandt, was born April 26, 1901 near Postville and passed away at her home at Castalia, August 16, 1967. She was educated in the schools of this community and grew to womanhood here.
On July 10, 1923 she was united in marriage to Earl Bachelder at Castalia. To this union were born 3 children: Bernice, Mrs. Earl Koenig of Postville, Irene, Mrs. Orville Koenig of Castalia, and George of Decorah. They made their home at Castalia where Mr. Bachelder was station agent for the Rock Island Railroad. They had lived in this community their entire married life except for 12 years spent at West Union, where Mr. Bachelder served as station agent for the same railroad. Mrs. Bachelder was herself station agent at Castalia from 1937 to 1952 for the Rock Island Railroad. August 26, 1964 they retired and moved back to Castalia.
Mrs. Bachelder was a faithful member of the Castalia E. U. B. Church, the W. S. W. S. and Eastern Star of Postville. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband; 3 children; 10 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Walter Brandt of Castalia and Oran Brandt of Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one grandson.
Services were Saturday, August 19, at 2 p.m. from the Castalia E. U. B. church with the Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.
