A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles E. Malek (“Chuck”) is Saturday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Benedict’s Church in Decorah. Chuck is the son of Jack and Doris Malek.

Chuck Malek, 56, passed away Dec. 7, 2010, at his home in Seattle, Wash. from a sudden cardiac arrest. An earlier memorial service was held in Seattle Jan. 7.

Chuck was a 1972 graduate of Decorah High School. After graduation he attended NIACC and Northeast Missouri State University where he played baseball and graduated with B.A. in Secondary Education. Chuck lived in Arizona before moving to Seattle, where he worked for Rosella’s Produce Company. Chuck had a passion for people and sports and loved living his life around his family, friends, and any spectator of sports.

Chuck is survived by his parents, Jack and Doris Malek; his loving wife of four years, Ericka, his two sons, Gabe and Luke; brothers; Joe (Kenda), Jim and Don; sister, Mary (Lee); nieces and nephews: Molly, Megan, Jeff, Mady (Joe), Nick, Chad (Jim), Zach, Parker, Leah (Don), Evie, Lee, Kyle, (Mary).

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Tressa Malek (Cleveland, Minn.), and material grandparents Ernest and Gladys Dodge (Waltham, Minn.).
