Daryl R. Luzum, age 52, of Calmar, Iowa died unexpectedly at his home in Calmar, Iowa on Saturday, November 19, 2005.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes & Rev. Robert Ament officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Daryl Luzum Memorial Fund, by mailing it to the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home 604 South Ave. Decorah, Iowa 52101.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Daryl Robert Luzum was born on March 28, 1953 the son of Leonard Joseph and Ethel Catherine (Huinker) Luzum in Decorah, Iowa. Daryl attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from South Winn High School in 1971; and from UNI in 1975. While in college, Daryl spent a semester in Spain. He worked in the Spillville Bank and then at the Farmer’s Coop Grocery Store in Postville. Daryl then was the manager of Monge’s IGA in Calmar and while there, he started his catering business. After Monge’s closed, he and Kenny Frana bought the Train Station in Calmar and continued his catering. Four years ago, he also started to manage the kitchen at the Elks in Decorah. Daryl enjoyed the people that he served and had a wonderful staff who supported him. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Daryl was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, serving as a song leader and the Elks Lodge #443 in Decorah, Iowa.

Daryl’s survivors include his mother, Ethel Luzum, Calmar, IA. One sister: Marilyn Klimesh & husband Jim, Cedar Rapids, IA; Two brothers: Larry Luzum & wife Kathy, Cedar Rapids, IA and Dick Luzum & wife Diane, Calmar, IA. Seven nieces and nephews: Dan Klimesh & wife Barb, Alan Klimesh, Michelle Walden & husband George, Brian & wife Jennessa Luzum, Jackie, Kelly and Jodie Luzum. Ten great nieces and nephews: Brianna, Kayla, Tanner, Gabe & Piper Walden; Brandi and Zach Klimesh; Cael & Ellie Luzum and Maysun Marshall.

Daryl was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Luzum on February 28, 2001 and his grandparents.
