Bernadette Kruse, age 86, of Decorah, Iowa died on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa following a long illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedicts Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home and until10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 7:00.

Bernadette Marie Tieskotter Kruse was born on April 28, 1918 to John and Cecilia (Schneberger) Tieskotter in Festina, Iowa. Bernadette attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina and then moved to Winona, MN, where she worked at St. Mary’s College. She married Andrew B. Kruse on January 16, 1939 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. After they were married they farmed near St. Lucas and then moved to Decorah in 1967. Bernadette worked as a seamstress for Amundson Clothing for thirty-two years, retiring in 2000. Bernadettte was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and St. Mark’s Ladies Circle and she volunteered for the Headstart program.

Bernadette’s survivors include her daughter: Elaine Hageman and husband Victor, Des Moines, IA; Seven Grandchildren: Brian Hageman & wife Julia, Decorah, IA; Brenda Williams & husband Ned, Blue Springs, MO; Bonnie Hageman, Des Moines, IA; Bruce Hagemann & wife Michelle Bayse, Plano, TX; Andy Hageman & wife Brenda, Decorah, IA; Arlin Hageman, Des Moines, IA; Allan Hageman & wife Venessa, Des Moines, IA. Fourteen great grandchildren: Kurt and Kayla Hageman; Ryan and Eric Williams; Andrew and Jason Hagemann; Russell, Josh and Aimee Hageman; Nicholas, Natasha and Taylor Jacob “TJ” Hageman; Isabella and Bond Hageman. Three sisters: Elvira “Vera” Tierney, Cedar Falls, IA; Leona Meissen & husband Jack, Lawler, IA and Marian Knutson & husband Juel, New Hampton, IA. One brother: Andrew Tieskotter & wife Bernie, Lawler, IA.

Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Andrew on April 23, 2001; two brothers, Roman Tieskotter in 1999 and Wilfred Tieskotter in 1989.
