Agnes Falada, age 96, of Spillville, Iowa, died Monday, October 31, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa after a long illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday Nov. 2, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call after 10:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning.

Agnes Eleanor (Schilney) Falada was born on July 11, 1909 the daughter of Alois and Lena (Pechota) Schilney near Little Turkey, Iowa on the family farm. Agnes attended country school near the farm. Agnes married John Falada on October 4, 1927 at Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey. Together they farmed north of Spillville until November 1, 1991, when she moved to the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Agnes enjoyed baking, crocheting, going to dances and listening to polkas and waltzes. She taught her grandchildren and great and great - great grandchildren to play the card game “31” and especially enjoyed family gatherings.

Agnes’ survivors include two daughters: Marie Balk, Decorah, IA and Clara (Lawrence) Pecinovsky, Elma, IA. One son: Stanley Falada, Decorah, IA. Eleven grandchildren: Marion (Joseph) Henry, Ronald (Mary Lou) Balk, Virginia (Larry) Gehling, Diane (Dennis) Baker, Alan (Annette) Balk, Lori Falada, Susan (Jeff) Hazard, Jane Falada, Tom Falada, Gerald ( Jolynn) Pecinovsky and Joan (Dennis) Best. Fourteen great grandchildren: Michael (Lynnette) Henry, Craig (Tricia) Henry, Steven (Jenny) Henry, Christine (James) Boehmler, Daniel Balk fiancé (Melissa Weathermon), Nicholas Balk, William (Janice) Baker, David Baker, fiancé (Marea Wickman), Jewell (Brian) Pahl, Bruce Balk, Thomas Hazard, Elizabeth Hazard, Levi Best and Izaack Best. Eight great great grandchildren: Anthony Henry, Danielle Henry, Logan Henry, Mason Henry, Blake Henry, Sarah Baker, Josiah Baker and Kaylee Baker.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Falada, October 29, 1991; one brother: Richard Schileny; one sister: Mayme Houdek; one son-in-law: Tony Balk; one grandson: James Falada; one great great grandson: Isaiah Baker.
