Thomas “Tom” Ellingson, age 78, of Decorah, Iowa died on Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2005 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Susan Debner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be full military rites at the graveside by the Helof – Holm VFW Post #1977.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and after 1:00 p.m. at the church on Monday afternoon.

Thomas “Tom” Marlin Ellingson was born on June 9, 1926 in Decorah, Iowa the son of Kenneth and Palma (Faldet) Ellingson. Tom attended country school near the Canoe Ridge area and graduated from Decorah High School in 1944. He served in the US Army during World War II. Tom married Ethel Bigler on May 8, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust. Together they farmed northeast of Decorah for many years until Tom’s health forced him to retire in 1999. Tom loved to farm and run equipment and he did custom combining for area farmers for many years. Tom enjoyed fishing in Canada and watching sports on the television. Tom was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and the Hamre-Giesen Disabled American Veterans Chapter #8.

Tom’s survivors include his wife, Ethel Ellingson, Decorah, IA. Two daughters: Judy Thompson & husband Lee, Sioux Falls, SD and Tammy Harris & friend, Kent Kregel, Postville, IA. One son: Ricky Ellingson & wife Kathy, Decorah, IA. Four grandchildren: Kara Fedders & husband Scott; Heather Thompson; Rachel Thompson and Rodney Ellingson.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents: Martin and Amanda Faldet and his brother: Kermit Ellingson.
