Richard Culbert, age 69, of Decorah, Iowa died on Monday, August 22, 2005 at his home from lung cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, LaCrosse, WI.

There will be no visitation. Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Arlin Culbert was born on November 18, 1935 the son of Alvin and Myrtle (Murphy) Culbert in LaCrosse, WI. Richard graduated from Onalaska High School in 1953. He served in the US Marines, during the Korean Conflict. Richard married Sharon Murphy on June 23, 1956 at the Cathedral in LaCrosse, WI. After the service, he returned to LaCrosse and went to printing school. He then worked for various printing companies in LaCrosse, Madison and Minneapolis. He moved to Decorah and worked for Anundsen Publishing for the last twelve years, retiring because of his declining health. Richard enjoyed trout fishing, reading and his horses in his younger days. He also was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Richard’s survivors include his wife, Sharon Culbert, Decorah, IA; Three daughters: Cynthia Moyer, Cambridge, WI; Joy (Dennis) Wohlfeil, Decorah, IA and Carrie (Lee) Zurcher, Farmersburg, IA. Three sons: Richard Mark (Tarrie) Culbert, Roseville, MN; Timothy Culbert, Fort Atkinson, WI and David (Joan) Culbert, Fort Atkinson, WI. Thirteen grandchildren: Kimberly & Stephanie Moyer; Michael (Sara) Wohlfeil & Jennifer Wohlfeil; Matthew, Sarah & Jonathan Culbert; Lisa & David T. Culbert; Cindy Lynn & Laura Culbert; Kayla & Misty Lenhart. Five great grandchildren: Ethan & Brady; Taylor & Ashton and Dillon. One sister: Sally Raper, Weaver, AL.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter: Emily Culbert; three sisters: Margie Culbert, Joyce Culbert and Janet Boardman; and one brother-in-law: Ernest Raper.
