Marvin M. Rollins, 84, of Cresco, formerly of Caledonia, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.

He was born Aug. 3, 1926 in Menomonee, Wis. to Charles and Grace (Wheaton) Rollins.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a boiler tender from 1944-46 in the southeast Pacific.

Marvin worked most of his life as a draftsman for Minneapolis Moline and John Deere. He lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Hot Springs, Ark., and Cresco. He enjoyed tinkering and inventing things like the car top carrier and dental floss holder.

He is survived by two daughters, Robin Emerson and Kandice (Ryan) Becker, both of Cresco; two sons, Mark (Ede) Rollins of Decorah, and Joel (Nancy) Rollins of Claremont, Minn.; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers: Chuck (Leota) Rollins of Caledonia, Minn., and Moe (Lorraine) Rollins of South St. Paul, Minn.; and a sister, Harriet Kirk, Richfield, Minn.

A memorial service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, Minn. Pastor Mark Bengston officiated. Burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Online condolences may be given at www.mccormickfuneralhome.net
