Lance Michael Langreck, age 3, of Lawler died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at his home

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Nick March officiating. The pall was placed by his parents. Lector for the Mass was John Cuvelier. Presenting the offertory gifts were Tim Landreck and Nancy Benson. Renae Huinker was the organist accompanying Lynette Wheeler as cantor.

Interment was in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Lawler with Tim Langreck, Nancy Benson, Mike Langreck, Kara Hageman, Gretchen Steere, and Ashley Bucheit serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Luke Langreck, Ann Knutson, Andrea Engh, Susan Leibold, Megan Anderson, Susan Smith, Sue Wilcox, Edith Searles, Linda Jencks, Jeanne Rochford, Kathy Stochl, Kris Freitag, Sandy Larson, Lisa Krieg, Martina Tannahill, Erika Loyd, Jessica Wurzer, Raquel Marlow, and St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care unit nurses, doctors, and staff.

Lance Michael Langreck was born Feb. 1, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Joe and Tina Langreck. Lance spent the first three months and five days of his life in the St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Rochester, Minn. He was born with congenital myotonic dystrophy. Although he was limited in physical ability, Lance could sit up, stand with assistance, and was able to take small steps with the use of a gait trainer. Every week, Lance had physical therapy whether it was with Team Rehab in Decorah, IA or in his home with assistance from Keystone AEA. Lance was a very happy child despite his many medical troubles that included many trips to the doctor. His favorite movie was Curious George and he loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Elmo’s World on TV. He loved bubbles, music, being in the water, and playing with his best friend and big brother Luke. Throughout his three years and eleven months and six days of life, Lance touched numerous people and will be deeply missed.

Lance is survived by his parents, Joe and Tina Langreck of Lawler; a brother, Luke Langreck; his grandmother, Beverly Roed of Decorah; his grandfather, Ronald (Mary Jane) Michels of Decorah; three uncles, Richard (Honor) Langreck of Lawler, Bruce (Tina) Michels of Decorah, Daniel Michels of Decorah; five aunts, Eileen (Tom) Carolan of Waucoma, Kathleen (Paul) Gnade of Ft. Atkinson, Shirley Smith of Calmar, Doris Mitchell of Lawler, Tammy Michels of Decorah; and 20 cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis (Katherine) Longreck; two uncles, John Langreck and Paul Smith. Hugeback Funeral Home assisted the family.
