Joyce Gates, 57, of Decorah died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Joyce Marie Gates was born Jan. 7, 1954, the daughter of Joseph and Adeline (Waller) McCormick in Decorah. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedicts in Decorah. She attended Decorah High School and graduated from Area 1. She spent many years living in Scottsboro, Ala. working at Commscope Inc. Joyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends along with going to the boat and playing bingo.

Joyce’s survivors include one daughter and three sons: Nancy (Wayne) Quade, Ernie (Nancy) Moen, Larry (Heather) Moen, and Kody Gates; one sister and two brothers: Carol (Carsten) Quam and Donald (Pat) McCormick and Kenneth (Mary) McCormick; two sisters-in-law: Helen McCormick and Jule McCable; ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Gates; her parents: Joseph McCormick and Adeline McCormick; two brothers: Jerry McCormick and Dale McCormick; two nephews: Terry McCormick and Kyle McCormick.
