Lavine Jeanette Greenslade, 85, of Cresco, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Burial is in the Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway.
Lavine Rassman was born Jan. 31, 1926 to Fred and Alice (Short) Rassrnan, Jr. Upon Lavine's parents deaths Oct. 14, 1933, she and her brother, Kenneth were raised by their grandparents, Fred and Anna Rassman, Sr. Lavine attended Howard County grade schools and graduated Cresco High School in 1944. She worked at Kellow's Grocery Store and the Cresco Bank. She also drove school bus for 33 years. On June 20, 1945 Lavine married LuVerne Greenslade. To this union three children were born. Together they farmed the Cresco area for over 41 years. Playing cards was a favorite pastime of Lavine's and she held the position of treasurer for the group.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann (John) Fravel of Sedalia, Mo.; a son, Gerald, (Starla) of Cresco; grandchildren: Darrin Fravel of Chillocothe, Mo., Lori Williams of Kansas City, Mo., Jesse (Jolynn) Fravel of Sedalia, Mo., Jennifer (Lee) Heller of Ankeny, Jordan Greenslade of Cresco and Joshua Greenslade of Cresco; great-grandchildren: Tiffany Bottcher of Kansas City, Mo., Brooke and Jake Williams of Kansas City, Mo. and Alyssa Fravel of Sedalia, Mo.; her brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Rassman of Grover Beach, Calif.; along with numerous cousins in the Owatonna, Minn. area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on July 24, 1990, and her son Dennis on July 20, 1968.
